Have a dig sometime - on our embedded devices, the kernel is usually ~2Mb; everything else is there to provide the userspace environment.  [In a Windows-centric environment, the same argument applies, but is a little more difficult to spot]

Thing is, all that bloat is what provides the flexibility to do many different things with the same device - if you don&#039;t want that, have a look at something like:
