Cringely on Analysts…

By Ben Kepes

It’d be nice to have the same reckless, damn the torpedoes and take no prisoners attitude that Cringley has. I was amused to read his post yesterday single-handedly writing off the $2bill analysis industry. He says;

The five P’s of IT are Pride, Prejudice, Politics, Price, and Performance, with the last two being by far the least important. Consultants like Gartner are very useful for minding the pride and politics, their real function being to provide $2 billion worth of IT management CYA per year.

Of course I couldn’t agree more, I posted last year about the lack of relevance of analysis firms in the modern age. It just takes someone with a whole lot of chutzpah (and no need to worry about future employment or alienating entire swathes of the industry) like Cringely to say it that bluntly.
