Not easy life… But I really really suggest you have a second server to test things before going live. You know, those things some call “staging server”…

It adds to the cost. Or it is an investment in resiliency and stability. Your choice.

  2. Ben Kepes says:

@MF – staging server is on its way

    I know , I know – why wasn’t it there already?

    Ah well……

  3. M Freitas says:

Or a virtual server. I am running five virtual machines on a single server – plus a backup server of course.

  4. Ben Kepes says:

we’ve got a VPS – but only one – and no space to run a nest virtual server

So answer is a staging server elsewhere that mimics the production server environment

    Ben!

(Quote): “…and no space to run a nest virtual server” (unquote)

What are doing running your own servers? Why aren’t you (of all people?) in the Cloud? ;-)

Amazon EC2 pricing here (http://cloudservices.blogspot.com/2008/10/amazon-announcements-general.html). 99.95% availability, download ElasticFox and just go for it. You’ll never need to touch a piece of tin ever again.

    Cheers

    Ben

With this site we made a decision to host in New Zealand….. it was a toss up and still under discussion though

  8. M Freitas says:

@Ben Reid, a “VPS” is a Virtual Private Server. Not much different from a server hosted at Amazon…

  9. Looks like it could be the lyric to a musical.
    Is Leonard Bernstein still alive?
