I subscribe to 1day – a great source for bargains (and sometime the place to go for junk). In between earthquake related emails today I got a note from 1day with todays offers. Included was an office chair, look at the email below:

1day

Despite not actually having an office right now, let alone a desk to put the chair behind, I clicked through to the site – after all $60 is pretty cheap for a nice leather office chair.

The listing on the site itself looked like this:

1day2

Down in the description 1day advises that the chair is covered in “Leather Look – PU” – PU stands for polyurethane for those who don’t know – and it sure isn’t leather. Now call me pedantic, but as I see it there are two possibilities here:

  1. This chair is actually leather, a real bargain and the description is wrong
  2. The email offer, and the text in the main body of the listing itself is false advertising, something that the Fair Trading Act explicitly deals with as misleading and deceptive conduct.

So Torpedo7 and 1day – which is it?
