News today that from September one will be able to have a DSL connection sans a Telecom line charge.

Of course this opens things up to utilising VOIP for all your phone calls and therefore not actually having a traditional landline.

We use Skype alot for voice and video conferencing and it’s good but seems a little problematic given some connections speeds. The conspiracy theorists amongst us would say that Telecom causes that by throttling back VOIP packets but once they have their own dedicated VOIP network these issues should be resolved.

It really is the start of the end of the era – who in the old P&T days would have thought…….

  • Just wait until IPTV gets going, then the fun will really begin.

  • I wouldn’t be able to holier than thou claiming I don’t have a TV!!! (considering that I do have a PC at home!)

  • Did I misunderstand you? IPTV is Internet Protocol Television; it’s TV programing through your internet connection and on to your monitor.

But I have a TV until then . . . not that I watch it that much.

  • Oh, and Ben, you need a DSL connection for VoIP to work properly, which means you still need a telephone connection.

I didn’t know if you knew any of that or not; it’s hard to know just how savvy people are about some of this technology.

  • thats what I mean – once full TV is available on my PC I can no longer say that I’m TV free!

  • Not come September – this stuff moves fast brock and NakedDSL is coming soon – DSL sans Telephone line
