Firefox 3 RC2 has at last got access to Google gears so I’ve taken the opportunity to do some offline web app work. As I type I’m reading some posts on Google reader, editing some Google docs and writing this blog post – all offline.
I’m safe in the knowledge that next time I connect, Google will take care of syncing my docs and reader file, and Live Writer will publish this post to my WordPress blog.
Currently I’m playing (I’m within my WiFi zone range but I’ve disconnected just to prove a point) but this development is game changing for those who move in and out of connectivity.
All that downtime in taxis and on planes can now be used to productivity effect. Sure people will say that this brings us back to where we were with MS office or any other installed office productivity app – but no – it’s given us the desktop functionality which, on a rare number of occasions is a mighty handy feature of installed apps, but it’s also gives us the value adds to be gained from web apps.
