This afternoon we’ll be making our regular family pilgrimage to Cockle Cove. Cockle Cove has been in my wife’s family for all of this century and most of last – my wife has been going there for 30 years and my kids are the fifth generation of her extended family to spend time there. We had our honeymoon there and have regularly revisited over the 11 years since.

Despite widespread overfishing (yes, even in New Zeland!) it’s still easy to catch ones bag limit at the Cove, and my boys are very keen to librate the fabled grandaddy blue cod that we’ve been chasing since they started going there.

There’s no internet at the Cove, hell electricity only got there a few years ago, so I’ll be delightfully out of touch until next Monday. We’ll see y’all next week, but meanwhile here’s a sample of what I’ll be looking at for the next few days – ahhh heaven
