An interesting discussion over on ZDNet about utilising solid state drives as opposed to mechanical hard drives for mobile computing. They included this interesting comparison chart which shows SSD being the hands down performance winners when compared to HDD’s.

SSD and HDD comparison chart

The only flipside is the current price but with more and more flash storage stuff happenings, and an increasing uptake of solid state as a concept, the price will come down.

My advice; if you’re not paying for the hardware then go for it, otherwise wait a few months/years until it is way more affordable.

That said in a few years all data and apps will be on the cloud so well hardly need a storage drive anyway! 😉
