I received a press release last week about a (queue loud innovation drum roll here) one day site launching here in New Zealand to give:
consumers with a quick and easy purchasing experience – and a guaranteed bargain every time!
In an absolutely novel (yes, that was sarcasm) twist, this site will…. upload a new deal each day at 12pm with subscribers being emailed advance notification of the deal 15 minutes before midday. The director of the site, Angela Osborne, is excited by it’s early promise proven by the fact that:
Our database is growing at more than 300 members a day and all those who register to receive our daily alert will have access to the $1 deals starting October 4th
The site, ezydeal.co.nz, was due to launch today. But this morning I received an email as follows:
So that’s a double fail – a me-too offering and a failed launch to boot!
Why do we return to this sort of thing in New Zealand. If it’s not the latest TradeMe killer, it’s the new social network that will take on Facebook – and we all know how that goes, who remembers Iyomu?
Just a reminder – innovation is about being innovative. Not ripping off an existing success story.
