Sorry to my international readers to whom this will have little relevance but I really needed to comment on this.
Past NZ media star Susan Wood took up a job a week ago as GM of a local business association. Now a week later she quits citing her concerns about a lack of funding.
It really gets me hot and bothered when stars such as this, who spend most of their time preening and enjoying their seven figure salaries, get all judgemental about what goes on in the real world. Once they’re actually exposed to the real world they have the rude awakening and realise that actually the average wage is about 5% of their previous salary and, contrary to popular opinion, money does not actually grow on trees.
It does beg the question as to what the hell this woman was doing being appointed to a business development role.
End of rant….
I’m probably being a little unkind, but I’ve never rated Wood as much of a journalistic talent, let alone media “superstar”. She rose to stardom on Holmes’ coat-tails and I did not enjoy her badgering and smug style of interviewing, which usually involved terminating the discussion if her opponent looked like making a valid point or getting the upper hand.
I’m not entirely clear what the Takapuna Beach Business Association were thinking she could add to their business. Perhaps she was worried they couldn’t afford to pay her?
Speaking of TV personalities who shouldn’t be in business. Have you been following the Suzanne Paul saga?
I am sometimes very very happy that I have no TV….
