And no they’re not going to sell books.
What they are doing, as per their announcement today, is to offer a scalable locale where developers can create, run and grow their applications. They’re taking aim at Amazon and the web services crowd.
The engine includes;
- Dynamic webserving, with full support of common web technologies
- Persistent storage (powered by Bigtable and GFS with queries, sorting, and transactions)
- Automatic scaling and load balancing
- Google APIs for authenticating users and sending email
- Fully featured local dev
So why would anyone do their own development infrastructure provisioning?
Will be interesting to watch this progress. Seems I was quick enough to get one of the first 10000 accounts. Now to come with an idea for a cool web app…
