A few days ago I posted about a TED lecture by Kevin Kelly that looked at the next 5000 days of the web. The upshot of that post was that we’ll reach, in the next few years, a situation where all devices are connected in a Gaia like mesh that sums up to The One computer that is a massive sum of its interconnected parts.

I’ve also been known to post about the relevance or otherwise of an operating system – (be it Win, Apple, Linux whatever).

Put these two together and we have an interesting vision that the CEO of Twine, Nova Spivak wraps up in a post on RWW.

The interesting question is one of chronology – does a move to the cloud cause the end of necessity for an OS and the ability to leverage all devices to create The One? Or do the machines with limited connections become sufficiently powerful to build a kind of momentum that rapidly brings about a wholesale move to the cloud?

Nova has some very interesting thoughts around search, social connectedness and information management. It’s a long post but well worth the read.
