This will end up sounding like a vanity post but it’s more than that. A few days ago I received an email from someone I’ve been talking to a bit about their product, they’re a European start-up working on a SaaS offering. The email went like this;

Belgium is a small and quite singular country where small start-ups can apply for Government premiums to help them in their R&D projects.
I was busy filling the required files and gathering information about SaaS market in Europe when one of the government IT advisors gave me some information about it.
And basically,  … they sent me to your blog!

Now obviously this is pretty gratifying from a personal perspective (and for the other contributors to this blog), but it’s also symptomatic about the changes that are occurring in the world in terms of “expertise”, “authority” and “advice”.

We’re seeing a real flattening and enablement, it’s similar to the revolution in media that is occurring through citizen journalism – people wanting to find information have a much richer bunch of choices from which to pick. This richness gives some very specific offerings that only require some good search techniques to be unlocked.
