Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg posted this apology for the recent debacles over their beacon information sharing system.

The trusting (read naive) part of me wants to congratulate Mark on his honesty, accept that it was an honest mistake and let him get on with running his empire. The sceptical part of me want to articulate a few points;

  • Facebook is valued at billions of dollar – we’re not talking a bunch of amateurs sitting round their dorm playing with code anymore
  • Facebook has a hard hitting investor base and board, decision like beacon are uber calculated
  • Given the potential revenue from “partners” for beacon, doesn’t a stealth like approach seem the route a business with massive potential but limited revenue would take?

So what do you think – honest mistake or member discovered dodginess?
