Nimsoft (previous coverage here) is today announcing that it’s monitoring solution now includes coverage and capabilities for Cisco Unified Computing Systems (UCS). For those who need a reminder, Nimsoft Monitor allows for monitoring of all manner of infrastructure elements – servers, storage, network and security – spread between public and private cloud as well as traditional infrastructure.

This announcement has been timed to occur at Cisco Live, one of the plethora of partner announcements that always accompanies these sorts of mega-vendor events. Regardless of this particular announcement, Nimsoft is riding a wave of companies wanting monitoring solutions that span the entirety of their technology footprint and that are agnostic as to vendor, location (on-premise or off) or delivery method (cloud, traditional some combination of the two).

Specific enhancements to Nimsoft that are being announced today include;

  • Broadened component support: Support for different parts of the UCS offering
  • Extended metric support: Data capture of  greater range of touchpoints
  • Easier configuration: Quicker setup and configuration for customers using UCS.

I’ve long said that monitoring and management solutions that span the ever-widening selection of vendors and delivery methods will become ever more valuable as the cloud to on-premises continuum becomes more greatly populated with diverse offerings. Nimsoft’s announcement today is another reaction to that increasing complexity.
