Well I didn’t see this coming. We were all so excited by the rumoured soon to be arriving Google phone that we didn’t remember that Google is a company that makes revenue from delivering advertising.

A proprietary mobile phone would do that but only to a limited audience. An open source mobile phone operating system, with buy-in from a number of mobile handset makers, spreads that potential audience massively.

Now where does this leave the radio spectrum auction stateside – what are Google’s intetions there?
