It’s amazing what happens to a company once they introduce a SaaS offering……

SAP’s TechEd07 conference opened the other day and who else as speaking but king of Web 2.0 O’Reilly himself.

Some selected quotes from O’Reilly’s presentation;

“Web 2.0 is about turning IT inside out. Interaction is data”

“Think about how to design so participation is natural, so a service that gets better as you use it is natural” (in other words solutions-centric and user-centric rather than technology-centric)

“Be aware that the consolidation of power could lead to bad things. Web 2.o is built out of network of cooperating data services, Make sure you create a remix culture. Think about data from the outside and services that tie into whole structure of the Internet, such as mashups,” (in other words non proprietary, inclusive and community created)

Interesting stuff – only question is how do you reconcile this user generated, non proprietary ideal with the commercial model of a giant such as SAP?
