News that Vodafone is releasing a service which will bypass Telecom’s copper network. Vodafone at home will route calls from a normal phone via the Vodafone cellular network. At $40 a month for unlimited national calls it’s reasonably good value but I kind of figure that those who would churn from Telecom are more likely to make the move directly to VoIP rather than an interim step to a service such as this.
One thing’s for sure – the next year or so will see carnage in the telecommunications industry – my advice; don’t commit to a medium or long term telecommunications contract.

How to dial 111 if there’s no power? Solar? Nighttime?
These moves also involve a debate over what happens to the 111 system.
granted Robin but what happens to the 111 system when our overhead phone lines blow down (actually I’m almost OK – I’m a firefighter and a paramedic in my spare time so 2 of the 3 emergency services we have covered in house!)
