Nick posted about the new HTC offering that could very well eat (at least some of) Apple’s lunch.

Sporting WCDMA which should be rolled out in New Zealand by the end of the year, the HTC Touch diamond is a pretty sexy unit. It’s Tri-band, it’s got WiFi, coverflow (in another name) and a nice touchscreen.

Specs are;

    • 2.8-inch touch screen, with four times the pixels of most phones
    • Vibrant TouchFLO 3D user interface
    • Built in GPS
    • HSDPA internet connectivity (7.2Mbps download)
    • 3.2 megapixel auto-focus camera
    • 4GB of internal storage
    • Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR
    • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g

I wonder if our local Telco will be getting them?????

  • After years with a Nokia 2210 I finally caved in a bought a Blackberry Pearl which is actually fab.

Now there’s another load of new stuff to ogle….it feels like we all have to buy an iPhone or risk social exclusion.

    What to do?

  • wait till someone gives you something new for free raf – that’s my advice!

  • Oh come on!

This phone is the phone equivalent of Microsoft’s Zune.

It’s about the UI and getting info on and off the phone.

Why do you think Apple had half the planet in training using the ipod UI and getting music from Apple or their computer (mac or pc) to their ipods for the last x years? Listening to music? That was only half (or a quarter) of the plan.

  • All way to logical… I refer to the Top Gear’s Cool wall as a good example…it’s not about logic, technology or “more bits for your bucks”…particularly with how Apple are approaching things….it’s about cool. iPhone is cool (or in many people’s eyes… sub zero). We technologists (actual or perceived) apply a whole lot of experience, knowledge etc… but the world.. just think it’s cool and the sales back that up. So I wouldn’t hold my breath about the iPhone killer.

  • Zune. love it – just a Zune.
If it isn’t an ipod, it isn’t an ipod. The non-ipod market is the really cheap and competitive end.

I’d really hate to be a phone manufacturer these days.

  • Actually WCDMA is coming at the end of the year for Telecom New Zealand, which is moving from its currenty CDMA EVDO standard.

Vodafone has a WCDMA network that has been active for years now…
