Charity starts at a phone…

Sarah Perez (who is a fantastic journalist) failed in her choice of title for a post over on RWW. The post is all about the different ways that people can now use mobile “text-to-give” services to get their quick fix of philanthropy lite.

Unfortunately the post was title “mobile giving takes off”, whereas I would say that a more accurate title would be “the option to give by mobile takes off”. Sure there is the ability to donate this way but I’d be fairly surprised if people really feel comfortable doing charity this way.

Most people I know shy away from giving to charities that telephone cold-call, prefering to give to a real life, safe and trustworthy collector.

But maybe I’m just a sceptic – so here it goes to the readership, what do you think;
